PT. Gerbang Cahaya Utama (GCU) was established on August 14th, 1998, in Jakarta and commenced commercial operations in February 1999, following the government's liberalization of trade in the agricultural sector, which was previously managed solely by BULOG until the end of 1997. Recognizing the vast prospects in the soybean trade business, GCU started importing soybeans from the United States.

In 2016, GCU began distributing white crystal sugar from BULOG and other sugar factories.

In 2017, GCU, through its subsidiary PT Karya Prima Organik, developed Palata, a natural preservative for tofu, to replace the formalin commonly used by tofu maker.

In 2020, GCU began selling animal feed products products and established a subsidiary named PT Corona Kernel Sukses as a distributor of Feed Additives.

In 2022, GCU has been importing products from several countries, including the US, Argentina, Brazil, New Zealand, India, and China. Additionally, GCU has expanded its corn business in various regions across Indonesia.
